Submission Deadline is:

Step 1: Submit your file for review only after reading the following information, including instructions on the Preparation of Papers page.

Step 2: Upload the source file for your paper to IEEE PDF Express and approve the Xplore compliant PDF created by that site. For further details, review the Preparation of Papers and follow the instructions under How to Create an IEEE Xplore Compliant PDF.

Step 3: The author should upload the PDF created from the PDF Express site to the IEDM Submission site.

IMPORTANT: Successfully uploading your paper does not indicate your paper fulfills the page limits or formatting requirements. This will only be verified by IEDM at a later stage and submissions that are found in violation of those requirements will be rejected from consideration. It is the author’s responsibility to fully follow the Preparation of Papers.


  • In addition to the guidelines below, please refer to the Pre-Submission Checklist to avoid potential issues and delays with reviewing your paper.

    Paper Requirements:

    Papers must be a 4-page camera-ready paper (2 pages of text and 2 pages of figures).

    Clearly State:

    • Purpose of work

    • Manner and degree to which it advances the art accompanied with proper references          

    • Specific new results that have been obtained with clear experimental conditions and their significance

    • Degree to which the paper deals with these issues will strongly affect whether the paper is accepted

    • Title of paper

    • Name, affiliation, city, state and country, email of the first author

    • Up to two pages of text and up to two additional pages of figures and drawings (no text, captions only) in 8-1/2” x 11” format describing the planned 20-minute paper and emphasizing the findings. The font size for the body of the text must be at least 10 point.

    • Excessive photo reduction of figures and poor legibility will negatively impact acceptance

    • Papers with more than 2 pages of text or 2 pages of figures shall be grounds for immediate rejection.

    • Avoid special international fonts

    • Page margins given in the template document will be enforced prior to submission

    The most common cause of rejection:

    • Lack of specific results.

    • Only work that has not been previously published at the time of the conference will be considered.

    • Paper acceptance will be based solely on the information provided on the four-page paper submitted. Promises of upcoming results will be ignored.  All submissions will be checked for plagiarism.

    In addition to the information below, please refer to the Pre-Submission Details to avoid potential issues and delays with your submission.

    Only electronic submissions received by the deadline via the Mira site will be reviewed. Submissions sent via email or mailed hard copies will not be reviewed.

    The following information MUST be entered in Mira:

    • Paper Title, Author List and Summary - NO changes permitted after July 10, 2025.

    • Identification as a regular “contributed” paper or a “student paper”

    • Suggested area/category (see Call for Papers Overview)  

    • 50-word abstract (Do not include as a separate page with your submission)

    • Agree to Pre-Publicity and IEDM Policies

    • Convert paper to PDF Express format and review to ensure it’s free of errors/missing information. Upload that paper to Mira. No changes can be made to pdf paper after completing the PDF Express conversion.

    REQUIRED: Prior to submission, the paper must be submitted to the IEEE PDF Express site to create the Xplore compliant PDF. 

    Once you have reviewed the Xplore compliant PDF for accuracy, upload that file to Mira. Papers not converted to the Xplore compliant PDF will be rejected.  

    • Submitted paper must be PDF Express compliant

    • Paper should match the author list, title and summary as noted in the electronic submission

    • The author must review the PDF Express version to ensure it’s free of formatting issues and missing information.

    • Papers presented by students and based on their own work may be considered for the Best Student Paper Award. 

    • Outstanding student papers will be invited to submit an extended version of their IEDM paper to an IEEE IEDM Special Issue in the IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices. Student authors will be notified in XX if selected to submit an extended paper.

    • Paper must be identified as a student paper at the time of submission. 

    • The award is based on both the paper and the presentation which must be given by the student. 

    • The award will be announced and presented at the 2025 IEEE IEDM.

    Financial assistance for travel and registration is available to students presenting papers. 

    • ASSISTANCE MUST BE REQUESTED WHEN THE PAPER IS SUBMITTED by choosing this option on the submission website. 

    • Requests made after the submission will not be considered. 

    • Further information on travel assistance will is listed under Speaker Information. 

    • Late News Papers are not eligible for travel assistance or the student paper award.

    • Student presenters will receive a separate notification with promo code for complimentary registration.  Do not register for the conference without this promo code as refund requests will not be granted.

  • To ensure your paper is published accurately in IEEE Xplore, use IEEE PDF  eXpress to check and convert your paper to an IEEE Xplore-compatible PDF. This tool verifies that your PDF meets specific requirements, including PDF version, font embedding, and the absence of certain elements.

    Make sure to follow these requirements on how to use IEEE PDF eXpress:

    • The PDF is version 1.4 (Acrobat 5) or later, but not Acrobat 9, X, or XI.

    • The PDF was created with PDF distiller. Scanning is not permitted.

    • All fonts are embedded or subset. This ensures that mathematics appear as intended and that text is searchable.

    • No password or other security settings are included.

    • No bookmarks or links are included.

    • There are no crop marks, registration marks, date stamps, timestamps, or any other mark that does not appear in the official version of the paper.

    • There are no PostScript settings that can override the settings file.

    • No PDF attachments are included.

    • The file is not a PDF Package or Merged PDF

    Step 1: Create an IEEE PDF eXpress Account

    First-time users: Select “Create Account” and enter the following:

    • Conference ID: 50572X

    • Your email address

    • A password

    • Continue to enter information as prompted

    • An Online confirmation will be displayed and an email confirmation will be sent verifying your account setup.

    Previous users: Previous users of PDF eXpress or IEEE PDF eXpress Plus need to follow the steps above but should enter the same password used for previous conferences. Verify that your contact information is valid.

    Step 2: Upload your IEEE Xplore Compliant source file

    Once the Xplore compliant PDF has been created you will receive an email. Review the PDF for accuracy and upload to Mira.

  • Agreement Not to Pre-Publish Papers or Present Papers

    Submission of a paper for review and subsequent acceptance is considered by the committee as an agreement that the work will not be placed in the public domain by the author prior to the conference. Accepted papers or significant portions of the work may not be placed in the public domain (conference with and without proceedings) prior to the conference. Violation will be grounds for automatic withdrawal of the paper by the conference committee.

    Late News Paper Submission

    Paper Acceptance Notification

    Late news papers announcing only very recent developments will be considered.

    A very limited number of late news papers will be accepted

    Late News Papers are not eligible for student travel assistance or the student paper award.

    Papers must be in the same format as a regular paper and should be submitted through the submission site in the same way as regular submissions.

  • Acceptance Details

    If accepted, the 4-page paper will be used for publication as submitted. No changes are allowed once the paper has been submitted for review.

    If accepted, authors are required to transfer their copyrights in a final submission stage, which will be in September after the paper selection meeting.

    Acceptance Notification

    • Authors of accepted papers will be notified by mid-September. The accepted paper will be published as-is in the IEDM Technical Digest. Publication in the digest in no way precludes later publication of a fuller account of the work in another journal, but NO PUBLICATION is acceptable before the conference. The paper must be presented at the conference by one of the listed authors.

    • Your paper has been accepted based on several conditions:

    • All authors must present in-person.

    • The paper will not be published in its entirety prior to the conference.

    • You must remain for 10 to 15 minutes after the session to address questions from the audience.

    Pre-Conference Publicity

    The accepted four-page abstracts and supporting information will be used for IEEE IEDM publicity purposes and portions of these abstracts may be quoted in pre-conference magazine articles and also via the Web. IF THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE, AUTHORS MUST INDICATE THIS ON THE WEBSITE WHEN SUBMITTING THE ABSTRACTS FOR REVIEW.
